Mors Alfabesi Nedir? Nokta ve Çizgi Rehberi
From the telegraph wires of the 1800s to modern amateur radio, discover the history, mechanics, and enduring legacy of the world's most famous encoding system.
What Is Morse Code?
Morse code represents text characters with short and long signals, conventionally written as dots and dashes and heard as dits and dahs. The International Telecommunication Union maintains the current International Morse code recommendation.
It is an encoding system, not a language: it can represent letters, numerals, punctuation, and procedural signals. For example, E is one dot and T is one dash.
That simple two-state design makes it usable over a telegraph key, a radio carrier, a light, or a switch input. The receiving person must still know the language being encoded.
A Brief History of Morse Code
The morse code history begins in the 1830s. Samuel Morse, an American painter and inventor, alongside his assistant Alfred Vail, developed the electrical telegraph. To send messages over the wires, they needed a system to translate text into electrical pulses. This led to the creation of the original American telegraph morse code.
On May 24, 1844, Samuel Morse sent the first official telegraph message: "What hath God wrought" from Washington, D.C., to Baltimore, Maryland. This breakthrough revolutionized global communication.

Mors Alfabesi Nasıl Çalışır?
Çalışma prensibi kesin zamanlama oranlarına dayanır. Temel zaman birimi bir noktadır (dit).
Zamanlama Kuralları
- Nokta (Dit): 1 zaman birimi

What is Morse code?
Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment. It encodes characters as sequences of dots (short signals) and dashes (long signals).
Who invented Morse code?
Morse code was developed in the 1830s and 1840s by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail in conjunction with their invention of the electrical telegraph.
Is Morse code still used today?
Yes, it is still widely used by amateur (ham) radio operators, in aviation for navigational beacons (VOR/NDB), by some military and naval services, and as an assistive technology for people with severe physical disabilities.
Is Morse code a language?
No, Morse code is an encoding system, not a language. It simply translates the alphabet of an existing language (like English) into a different format (dots and dashes) that can be transmitted over various mediums.
What is SOS in Morse code?
SOS in Morse code is ... --- ... (three dots, three dashes, three dots). It is the internationally recognized distress signal, chosen because of its unique, unmistakable pattern rather than standing for specific words.
How long does it take to learn Morse code?
The time varies with practice frequency and your goal. Start by recognizing character sounds, then build accuracy before increasing speed. The ARRL recommends structured practice methods such as Koch and Farnsworth timing.
What is 'I love you' in Morse code?
'I love you' in Morse code is: .. / .-.. --- ...- . / -.-- --- ..-
How do you say 'hello' in Morse code?
'Hello' in Morse code is: .... . .-.. .-.. ---
